“Blackest Shades” is a story that has been with me longer than anything else I’ve been writing about. Not too long ago, I picked it back up, gave it a dusting, and decided that I could experiment with rewriting it from a different POV, and edit the mythology just a little.
It’s first person, narrator driven, much like the BSAC material is. I can tell that it will be difficult to keep this narrator from sounding like Frank… who, I admit, sounds a lot like I do when I’m not trying to impress people. One way or another, I’ll learn something by writing it, and people might enjoy it. Nothing wrong with either of those outcomes!
The first major thing I’ve learned by working with this material is that I can’t write a lot of it in one sitting. It just freaks me out.
